More tips for riding a motorcycle in the heat

Keep your head cool on your motorcycleA few weeks ago I posted a review on the evaporative cooling vest I have been wearing on my motorcycle in the Texas summer heat.

Today it was 105 degrees in North Texas for my 45 minute commute home.  Did I get hot?  I did get a little warm when I was stuck in traffic at red lights, but if I was moving I was as cool as a cucumber.  Partly due to the new trick I have up my sleeve to beat the summer heat.

So what kept me cool in 105 temps in Texas?  This past weekend I purchased a Taichi Helmet Cool Cap.  I purchased it at Moto Liberty. They have a great store in Dallas, TX.  They have very knowledgeable staff and are always a pleasure to do business with.

The Cool Cap is a very thin helmet liner that is worn under the helmet.  It does not ad any bulk and you barely know it is there once your helmet is in place.  Before I left work I got the Cool Cap damp while I was soaking my evaporative vest.  The combination of the vest and cap made a HUGE difference.  It was a bit of a strange sensation to feel like I had a heater blowing in my face and yet the top of my head had a slight chill to it.

I wear full protective gear for my commute so I had my Shoei helmet and a vented mesh jacket on for the ride home.  My Shoei helmet is very well vented and I think that made a big difference in keeping my head so cool.  If your helmet is not as well vented your experience may differ.

Since I deal with the heat on a regular basis, these are two of the best accessories I have purchased for my commute.  They make a world of difference, and I would not want to ride in the summer w/o them.  Especially when you consider I paid, $24 for the vest, and $14 for the cool cap it is a fantastic investment for anyone who rides in the scorching summer heat.

So, if the summer heat is bogging you down, check these products out.  You won’t be disappointed.
