The Indian recall – more than 18,000 motorcycles

Information and details on the Indian recall. As far as recalls go this is a big one.  Indian has recalled over 18,000 motorcycles with the Thunderstroke 111 engine.  Virtually every motorcycle Indian has made with the 111 Thunderstroke engine between 2014 and 2016.

The 111 Thunderstroke engine can allow unburnt fuel to pass through the exhaust system during a misfire.  This increases heat in the system and the potential for a fire.

Specifically the recall will affect the Dark Horse, Chieftan, Indian Chief Classic, Roadmaster, Vintage and Chieftan Dark Horse motorcycles that were produced between April 15, 2015 and June 16, 2015. The Indian Springfield is not affected by this recall.

Indian owners can expect to be contacted by Indian Motorcycles on when they plan to rectify the issue. Most likely an update to the ECU will fix the issue.

The recall is expected to start in July 2016. You can reach Indian Motorcycles at 1-877-204-3697 and use reference # I-16-02.

Also the NHTSA is available for information as well.
